Alex Pelly Video Synthesis Workshop

Perfect Circuit

"LA-based artist Alex Pelly has been working with live video for over a decade, and is now well-known for her work with video synthesis. From her work doing live visuals for musicians and other performers to her monthly Dublab show Pellyvision, she has a proven track record of producing intricate, captivating realtime imagery.

In this video workshop, Pelly walks us through the basics of analog video synthesis, from thoughts about planning a modular video synth system to the functions of individual modules. She covers modules by LZX Industries and Erogenous Tones extensively, showing how they can easily become the core of a video-oriented modular system. And by providing an extended tour of her personal system and a detailed patch walkthrough, she demonstrates some tactics for harnessing feedback, audio reactivity, and hands-on control to create colorful layers of video that dynamically evolve along with music.

"KONTAKTOR - Live Elektronik Musik festival's first edition took place on first of June in Riga Electrical Machine Building works main building, Sarkandaugava Industrial Park. A night long celebration of audacious electronic music brought together carefully curated live acts only. The program of the event aimed to recoil from the currently common and to accentuate mutating and ever evolving forms of techno, industrial, noise & experimental music. The event was created and produced by Erica Synths.

Dr. Walker, a founding member of Air Liquide, Asbest! and the head of the Liquid Sky Berlin and the soon upcoming Liquid Sky Portugal, also a part of Erica Synths team, brought a live set to trap the festival attendees within groovier rhythms eventually growing into harsher bangers and noisy soundscapes.

via Moogfest

"- Moogfest attendees engage in an ecosystem of ideas, experiments, and specialized skills

Durham, North Carolina (April 5, 2017) – Today Moogfest unveils the full schedule for the expansive four-day festival. Exploring the future of technology, art, and music, the festival includes more than 300 musical performances, daytime workshops, conversations, masterclasses, film screenings, live scores, durational sound installations, and interactive art experiences.

The full schedule can be found online at http://moogfest2017.sched.com

*Please note, the full schedule can be viewed on Sched; however, registration and adding sessions to your personal schedule won't be available until sign-up opens Friday, April 7, at 12:00 noon ET for Engineer ticket holders; Tuesday, April 11, at 12:00 noon ET for VIP ticket holders; and Tuesday, April 18, at 12:00 noon ET for all ticket holders.

Moogfest celebrates the legacy of Bob Moog, a visionary engineer who pioneered the analog synthesizer and other technology tools used by artists like Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and Kraftwerk. This year’s program will feature over 260 innovators in music, art, and technology -- from Flying Lotus, Animal Collective, Suzanne Ciani, Gotye and Princess Nokia to Dr. Kate Shaw, an experimental particle physicist working on the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, and Joe Davis, a pioneer in creating art with genes and bacteria at MIT Media Lab. Moogfest takes place in Durham, North Carolina, a fast-growing capital of technology, culture and entrepreneurship.

Happening Thursday, May 18 - Sunday, May 21, with hundreds of artists, speakers, and sessions across downtown Durham, Moogfest contains a vast galaxy of discovery. Workshops are an essential part of the Moogfest program, as the platform prioritizes intimate spaces for collaboration and creativity. In these open learning environments, participants interact with technology tools that allow humans to creatively express themselves in new ways, so that we can design the future we want to see and hear.

Sync 02 Synth Event in Portland Set for March 4th

via Analog Industries, where you'll find additional details:

"Sync02 is the second in what is apparently going to be a yearly 1st-Saturday-Of-March affair. Last year's event went off well enough that we decided to do it again, despite the torential rain. As you may remember if you attended, Sync01 took place at JWZ's excellent CodeWord venue in San Francisco.

My goal is to never do the event in the same place twice, so this year's event is in Portland, on Saturday, March 4th at Holocene. It is over twice as big as last year's, so we got a partner. Audio Damage is doing it in partnership with Control Voltage. The manufacturers that will be exhibiting include:

MONOLITH Modular Analog Monosynth - Only 5 Made

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a beautiful, rare analog modular monosynth; the Monolith from LZX Industries.

Only 5 of these were ever made, so you’re unlikely to see one again any time soon.

This synth sounds great doing bread-and-butter monosynth sounds and can also get a bit wild when you crank up the resonance on the self-oscillating filter. Plus it’s fully modular so you can get crazy with the patching.

Here are the specs;

The LZX Monolith is a 5U form factor modular synthesizer voice enclosed in one panel design and is based on the Music from Outer Space Sound Lab.
A ready-to-go fully modular synth voice that can easily work with 1v per octave analog equipment, midi to cv converter with your midi controllers or computer, or something like the Akai Max 49.

Modules are as follows:
· VCO 1 (Sawtooth, 2 FM ports)
· VCO 2 (Sawtooth and Pulse, Pulsewidth Modulation, FM1, FM2)
· Signal Mixer (3 ins summed to one out, individual knobs to attenuate volume or voltage)
· VCF (Resonant Lowpass and Bandpass filter, Cutoff FM port.
· VCA (1 I/O, 2 CV ports to influence volume)
· Secondary Signal Mixer (Another stage of audio or voltage blending, 2 Ins, 1 Inverted in, 1 Out.)
· AD Envelope Generator (Trig or Gate switch, Cycle mod to simulate LFO effects, Trig In, Voltage out. )
· Modulation Generator (Sawtooth, Triangle, Ramp, Square, Fast or Slow mode switch, Frequency knob, CV out)
· Noise Generator
· Blank Ports are Multis
· Real Wood End-Cheeks!"

T-t-talk to me - An Echophon, Planar and Ribbonz demo

Published on Feb 8, 2014 HardScienceAV

"I just got the Make Noise Echophon and decided to give it a go. This is the result of my first patch. Thought I'd make a video of my experience :)

Here's a basic breakdown: The Flame Talking Synth is going into the Echophon input. I took the aux out of the Echophon into the FoH Sound of Shadows and fed both Echophon and SOS outputs into the Fontronik MH01. There's a lot of modulation going on. The Talking Synth has all of its parameters controlled by the Monde Ribbonz (the ribbon controller at the bottom that you've never seen before) and the Echophon has most of it's parameters controlled by the Intellijel Planar joystick and the ZBK (the big knob in the middle!).

The video was then processed with the LZX Industries video synth.
